Cebu City, Philippines — Carmen continued to soar as it remained undefeated while Liloan kept in step in the 9th Congressman Red Durano Cup basketball tournament on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, in Carmen.
With their adoring home crowd cheering them on, Carmen put on a show and blasted Sogod, 103-81, to push their win-loss record to an immaculate 6-0.
The writing was on the wall as early as the first canto as Carmen zoomed ahead by 20 points, 35-15. By the third period, the result was a foregone conclusion as the home team established a 26-point lead, 85-51.
John Banzon led Carmen with 24 points while Stephen Bejoc was just as lethal with 22 of his own.
Sogod dropped to 1-5 in this tournament.
Liloan, on the other hand, defeated Borbon, 81-71, thanks to a second period surge that turned a slim 24-21 lead into a 50-33 halftime lead.
Borbon was able to trim the deficit down to 10, 51-61, heading to the fourth canto but was not able to sustain their momentum, resulting in their third loss in six games.
Liloan improved to 4-2. Dave Maglasang scored 25 points to power Liloan while Jeffrey Tuatho put up 19. /bmjo
