CEBU CITY, Philippines — Since she moved to Houston, Texas, with her family in 2010, Cebuana singer Sheryn Regis still continues her passion performing outside the Philippines.
In an Instagram message sent to Cebu Daily News, the Crystal Voice of Asia confirmed that she has been performing in the United States and Canada.
“Although I miss performing in front of our Kababayans there in Pinas, I feel so at home performing here, too, because I also perform here for Filipinos though. Not all are Filipinos but mixed races,” she said.
Regis will be in Virginia on April 14 for the 40th Foundation of Southwest Virginia Association of Philippine Physicians (FSWVAPP) Spring Fundraising Convention at the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel.
She will also hold a concert on June 8, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Gymnasium in Georgia. Her special guests include inspirational pianist Joel Sebag and American Idol semi-finalist Thomas Stringfellow.
Regis described herself as a dreamer and, at this point, she wants the Lord to give her long life for her to continue her passion for singing.
“I cannot live without it. I still want to sing and sing and sing for you guys and for those people who still believe in me and my talent,” she said.
Regis has been working as a part-time teacher for pre-kindergarten to middle school in Texas since 2018.
At the same time, she is also a host of a daytime show called, “Chit Chat Houston” in the local American television channel KUBE 57.
It is the first Asian produced talk show in Houston, which is also hosted by Cheryl Piccio, Nelvin Adriatico, and Vincent Evangelista.
Regis rose to fame when she became a runner-up in ABS-CBN’s “Star in a Million” in 2003.
She popularized songs like “Come in Out of the Rain,” “Maybe,” and “Kailan Kaya.”
In 2004, she represented the Philippines in the Voice of Asia held in Kazakhstan where she finished second place.
During the competition, she performed “Isang Lahi,” “Sana’y Di Pangarap,” “Now More than Never,” and “Follow Your Dream.”
A native of Carcar City, she earned her degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English at Cebu Normal University (CNU).
Recently, Regis together with Garth Garcia released a new song titled, “Sa’yo” which is now available on Spotify and iTunes.
The Cebuana singer also confirmed that her cousin-in-law Kiki Echiverri composed the song, “Tonight” which is now available on iTunes.
Is she ready to come home in the Philippines?
“Probably at the end of the year. My manager planned to let me go home for probably a month for a series of shows. I really miss you all there. I miss my Sherynians,” she added. /dbs
