CEBU CITY, Philippines–The efforts of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will get a boost when a third farm school will be registered this year.
TESDA-Cebu Provincial Director Francisca Opog said the Balamban Intensive Skills and Technology Inc. (BISTI) has started processing their application for registration with TESDA.
Opog said they would also focus on encouraging farm schools to promote their agricultural courses.
In Cebu, there are two TESDA-registered farm schools, according to Opog. The two schools are the St. Peter Academy of Alegria Foundation Inc. in Barangay Poblacion, Alegria and the Lamac Multipurpose Cooperative Integrated Organic Farm School in Pinamungahan.
St. Peter Academy has a two-hectare agriculture training center.
The Lamac farm school also offers training on organic farming for their live-in scholars.
She added that TESDA would pay for the tuition of the farm school students. The agency pays up to P10, 000 for tuition of scholars.
The farm schools offers different agricultural training, including organic agricultural production.
However. Opog explained that the farm schools, just like the technical/vocational schools have to undergo regular competency assessment to ensure that they provide quality training./dcb
