TALISAY CITY, Philippines – A suspected gun-for-hire was killed in a police operation in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City, Sunday dawn, April 14.

Police Major Ardioleto Cabagnot, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said they were forced to neutralize Jackson Segundino, 35, after he resisted arrest and exchanged fire with his arresting officers.

Cabagnot said that Segundino is on their top five most wanted persons list. He is behind several murder cases in their city and has two pending warrants for murder.

Segundino was also identified as the killer of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and the treasurer of Barangay Lawaan among others.

Cabagnot said that Segundino, a native of Sitio Lawis, Barangay Maghaway, has gone into hiding to elude arrest.

At least four policemen visited Sitio Lawis Sunday dawn hoping to find Segundino there.  They brought with them a warrant for Segundino’s arrest issued by Judge Glenda Go of Branch 65 of the Regional Trial Court in Talisay City. But it was uncertain which murder case the warrant was issued for.

The police team was lucky to have chanced upon the suspect who was on his home from playing tong its.  But when one of the policemen called the suspect’s name from behind, he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the police team.

Cabagnot said his policemen  managed to first hit Segundino on his body which resulted to his immediate death.

“Wala na mag pauna ang atong tropa,” Cabagnot said.

In tears, a cousin of Segundino, who refused to be named, questioned the killing. She said that Segundino was a good man and was unarmed when killed by the police.

She admitted though that Segundino killed a certain Willie Perame in 2016 but out of self-defense. Segundino returned fire after Perame, who was in his 50s,  shot him on the knee.

However, it was Segundino’s father Armando, who was arrested for Perame’s killing. Armando remains detained at the Maghaway District Jail. /dcb
