Wolves rally from 20 down to escape Rams

Cebu City, Philippines —The Wolves pulled off another miracle escape as they nipped the Rams, 73-72, in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu City – Season 14 on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Visayan Glass Gym in Guadalupe.

Dexter Cabasan gifted the Wolves the thrilling victory as he caught the ball and sank a three-pointer with 0.5 of a second remaining. 

Cabasan’s heroics capped off a huge comeback effort by the Wolves, who trailed by 20, 24-44, at halftime.

Cabasan led the way for the Wolves with 27 points while Lester Lucero and Ervin Lopena posted solid numbers with 18 and 14 points, respectively. 

The win pushed the Wolves’ record to 4-3 (win-loss) while the Rams fell to 3-4.

Meanwhile, the Eagles and the Cheetahs forged a tie for the lead after they collected wins over their respective opponents. 

The two winning teams now share identical 5-2 cards.

The Eagles clawed the Panthers, 97-91, while the Cheetahs sped past the Sharks, 81-69.

The deadly trio of Jarred Nacasabog, JL Manila and Matt Oche proved too much to handle for the undermanned Panthers. Nacasabog had 27, Manila scored 22 while Oche, a former University of the Visayas Green Lancers, added 20 to give the Eagles the win.

John Cabahug led the Cheetahs with 24 points while Kimo Bajamunde and RJ Acha added 15 and 13 markers, respectively.
