Police arrest nine persons; nets 300K worth of drugs in Talisay drug busts

TALISAY CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Police seized P312, 000 worth of illegal drugs in two separate buy-bust operations in Barangay Pooc on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

The joint operations of the members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office and Talisay City Police Station led to the arrest of nine persons believed to be engaged in the illegal drug trade.

Police Captain Alejandro Batobalanos, chief of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, said Edsel Sedantes, 20, was the target of the first buy-bust operation.

Seized from Sedantes was illegal drugs amounting to P209, 000.

Arrested along with Sedantes were Martin Canales, Edison Ravanes and Joel Hernan, who are all residents of Barangay Pooc.

Batobalanos said a certain Mark Ravanes escaped the raid. Ravanes allegedly works with Sedantes in the illegal drug trade.

In the nearby Sitio Bomba, police arrested Charlina Marjorie Gucor, 33.

Gucor was the target of the drug bust. However, companion, Osmundo Bucog Jr. escaped arrest.

An estimated P103, 000 worth of drugs were seized from Gucor.

Also arrested on the same day were four individuals after they were caught in a pot session inside an uninhabited house.

Joan Del Torre, 48, Yoshi Ota, 21, Nelson Alipio, 57, and Jerome Dela Cerna, 47, are residents of Sitio Centro, Barangay Pooc.

Batobalanos said the buy-bust operations were implemented based on the reports they received from residents. /celr
