Palace orders suspension of gov’t work from noon onwards on Holy Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Wednesday suspended work in government offices starting 12 p.m. onwards.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued and signed Memorandum No. 60 suspending government work.

 

“To provide government employees full opportunity to properly observe 18-19 April 2019, regular holidays and to allow them to and from different regions in the country, work in government offices on 17 April 2017 is hereby suspended from 12 o’clock in the afternoon onwards,” the memorandum read.

“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services. preparedness/response to disasters and calamities. and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” it added.

The suspension of work in private companies and offices, Medialdea said, “is left to the sound discretion of their respective employers.” /muf
