Abrugena reports peaceful celebration of Semana Santa 2019

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Despite the ambush of a policemen and his sister in Samboan town, the Holy Week celebration in Cebu province remained “generally peaceful.”

Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said that the attempt on the life of Police Master Sergeant Roy Ryan Cavalida and his sister was an “isolated crime incident.”

Investigation is ongoing to identify their attackers and the motive behind the Good Friday ambush.

“Generally peaceful naman po ang celebration ng ating Semana Santa 2019 except for some isolated crime incidents,”Abrugena said in text message sent to CDN Digital today, April 20.

“Our security plan has been proven effective,” he added.

CPPO deployed at least 100 policemen to augment security in parts of Cebu province that served as convergence area for huge crowds during the Holy Week celebration.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) also placed the entire Central Visayas under full alert status in anticipation of the arrival of travellers in seaports and bus terminals. /dcb
