CEBU CITY, Philippines — “Everyone can relate.”
This is the assurance of Cebuano singer Jem Cubil whose song titled, “Tanong,” is officially released by Viva Records.
The 25-year-old singer revealed that he was going through something about life, love, and career when he wrote, “Tanong.”
“Abi man gud nako para gyud ni sa akong ex. Maybe, it can be (for her) but I think it is more to life. We always ask that ‘return’ or ‘money back guarantee’ sa pagmamahal na binibigay natin,” he told Cebu Daily News Digital.

He thinks that there are other things that people invest in, but he believes that most people invest in love.
“Sana makita ng kapwa ang effort na binigay mo para sa mga bagay na ito. As the chorus goes, “Mauuna o mahuli, sa dulo may pagmamamahal bang isusukli?” Every time I listen to it, it makes me feel hopeful. Dapat kasi daw unconditional love ang binibigay,” he added.

Pursuing a career in Manila
A native of Talisay City, Cubil finished Associate Computer Technology at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U).

Cubil is known for his stints like the “Pilipinas Got Talent” Season 2 in 2011 and “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 in 2014 in ABS-CBN.
Though he did not win in the two competitions, Cubil signed up with Viva Records more than a year ago.
“There are a lot of factors on my decision to move to Manila. Some friends told me to push my career in Manila. They would say it is better here kaysa (compared to) Cebu,” he said.
Although things were okay for him in Cebu back then, he admitted that he was not happy with what he was doing.
“Sige ra ko gipull sa universe to do music and kickstart my career again. And for sure I knew at that time I had to push my music. Naalala ko pa sinabi ko na na if something comes up again, I would not back down to that opportunity,” he added.

After moving to Manila, he is happy since he has been able to release six songs last year.
His popular songs in 2018 are “The Morning After” with Andrea Barbierra for the movie “Meet Me in St. Gallen” headlined by Carlo Aquino and Bela Padilla as well as the songs “Heartbeats” and “When I See You” for the film, “Sid and Aya” topbilled by Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis.
