Cebu City, Philippines—High-energy forward Joevince Canizares put up an incredible double-double of 31 points and 26 rebounds to tow Batch 2000 past the hard-fighting Magis Eagles B, 77-75, in the SHAABAA Summer League 2019 Bad Boys Wingz Cup basketball tournament on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.
Playing with just a seven-man squad, Canizares — who is a commercial model as well as a real estate agent — played the entire 40 minutes, shot 14-of-23 from the field and grabbed an astounding 10 offensive rebounds to push 2000 to the victory.
Guard Dave Ting added 14 points while versatile big man Joseph Lo also had a double-double of his own, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
In another game, the 2003-Cebu Landmasters routed 2006, 71-54.
Four different players scored in double-figures for 2003 led by the 23 points and nine rebounds of Daryle Tan.
Moncrief Rogado, who plays for Batangas in the MPBL, added 16 points, five boards and five assists while Jan Jaca put up 15.
Justin Huang scored 10 points and pulled down 14 boards.
2005 also edged 2011, 76-74, behind the endgame heroics of Aaron Uy.
Uy, who led 2005 with 25 points, shattered a 71-all deadlock with two straight baskets to put them up, 75-71, with 32 seconds remaining.
2011’s Kiefer Lim pulled his team to within one with a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining. However, Uy kept his cool and made a free throw with three ticks left to seal the win for 2005.
Finally, 2012 dropped 2002, in overwhelming fashion, 89-41. /bmjo
