CEBU CITY, Philippines – Drug surrenderers joined students, teachers and parents from the Duangan Elementary School in Pinamungahan town plant 3,500 seedlings in one of its hinterland barangays.

The group planted Panglomboien, Star Apple and Jack Fruit.

Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) provided the seedlings and sent some of their employees to join the tree planting activity held recently.  Other participants were officials of Barangay Duangan headed by Barangay Captain Annette Navarro, youth leaders, Pinamungahan town police and employees of trucking service provider LNC Ventures.

In November 2017, Duangan students and their families also planted some 3,500 seedlings together with their counterparts from the Guimbawian Elementary School, said Engineer Joel A. Sombelon.

SEDC organized the tree planting activity in the area as a preparation for its quarry operation that will provide raw materials for cement manufacturing at the Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) plant.

The company has planted a total of 65, 000 seedlings in the last 10 years. Earlier, tree planting activities were also held in Barangays Bugho, Cabatbatan and Magsico in San Fernando town as part of SEDC’s efforts to rehabilitate its old mine sites.

SEDC has also organized various medical missions for residents of its mine communities since 2013, Sombelon added. /dcb
