MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Mandaue City reminded voters anew to choose leaders who are “matino, mahusay at maaasahan” (sensible, competent, and reliable).

The agency spearheaded a caravan early morning on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, which calls for voters not to sell their votes and to properly scrutinize their choices for the May 13 polls.

The caravan participated by personnel of DILG, local police, Bureau of Fire Protection and partner non-government organizations (NGOs) kicked off at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex past 7 a.m. and rounded the city’s streets.

“It’s our advocacy against vote buying. First, we would like to remind our constituents nga di nato ipagamit atong vote para lang sa kadiyot o tulo kaadlaw nga kalipay. Atong hunahunaon ang importansya sa atong vote if mapakita gyud ug mapili gyud nato ang sakto nga mga opisales,” DILG-Mandaue City Director Jhoaden Lucero told CDN Digital.

(We would like to remind our constituents not to sell our votes for a few days of capricious. Let us value our votes and make sure that we get to choose the right persons for the positions.)

Police Colonel Julian Entoma, director of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), also encouraged the public to report to them incidents of the vote-buying in their areas.

Personnel of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) recently shaved their hair bald as a testament of their call to end vote buying.

Entoma said that they hope that persons who would be implicated for vote-buying during this midterm polls would finally be charged. /bmjo
