CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City’s opposition party, Partido Barug-PDP Laban, will be holding their miting de avance at the back of the San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish along C. Padilla Street in Barangay San Nicolas from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

According to vice mayoral candidate, Michael “Mike” Rama, the entire northern and southern slate will be complete on the miting de avance, as this will be the last grand campaign for the party before the elections on Monday, May 13.

Rama invited the supporters and the curious public to attend on their own accord as there would be no “hakot,” or the fetching of supporters to bring them to the gathering.

“We don’t want to compete with the opposing party’s miting de avance, but ever since Team Rama until Barug, we always proved to have the numbers,” said Rama.

Rama said that the recent Pulihi na, Cebu! movement that was launched in a free concert on May 1 would be expected to influence more people to attend Partido Barug’s crowd on Wednesday night.

“That will be an additional force for us. It may work on our favor,” said Rama.

The Pulihi na, Cebu! movement is a movement, composed of businessmen and civil society organizations, which recently took off through a Labor Day concert. Their aim is to influence the Cebuano youth on the pressing issues in the city including garbage and flooding.

The movement seemed to  show open support to Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, the standard bearer of Partido Barug-PDP Laban, during their launch since he was the only candidate present in the event.

He spoke for at least two minutes.

Labella said in a press conference that he was hoping that people would attend the miting de avance despite it being far for the northern district voters, especially that they could not provide service vehicles.

Despite not providing service vehicles, Labella said he could not also stop some supporters if they would like to offer their cars as service vehicles for their fellow supporters.

“We would like to see on that night the true sentiments of the Cebuanos, and the true numbers of supporters of Partido Barug-PDP Laban,” said Labella./dbs
