Sixth fire to hit Cebu City this March, Fire Prevention Month
At least five houses were gutted by a fire in sitio Upper San Roque, barangay Bulacao, Cebu City shortly before midnight Friday.
Francisco Lacno, a 49-year-old paralytic, managed to escape the fire that destroyed his home and those of others at 11:50 p.m.
He suffered first-degree burns, said SFO1 Lowel Opolentisima.
Lacno was rushed by neighbors to the nearest hospital.
Electrical misuse is among the possible causes of the fire being looked into by investigators, said the fire official.
The fire started at the house owned by Ernesto Dela Torre.
The burned houses were made of wood and concrete.
The owners of the other four houses were identified as Tito Torres, Dory Dela Patana, Tulpa Cañada, and Ernesto Romera.
It was the sixth fire to hit Cebu this March, which is celebrated as Fire Prevention Month.
Last Friday morning, a fire also hit the first floor of the North General Hospital in barangay Talamban Cebu City.
Patients were rushed outside, but the fire only caused minor damage.
Two fire incidents were recorded in Cebu City last March 1—a car that caught fire at the South Road Properties (SRP) and a house in barangay Guadalupe caught fire but sustained only minor damage.
Two fires also hit a machine shop in barangay San Roque and a basement of Crown Regency Hotel and Towers in the middle of last week.
