Mandaue City pulls off amazing comeback to tie Governor’s Cup finals at 1-1

Mandaue City, Cebu—The Mandaue City Ballers came alive in the second half to defeat the reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars, 94-76, and equalize the best-of-three finals series at 1-1, in Game 2 of the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Down 14 at halftime, the Ballers suddenly went berserk and went on a 25-2 run to seize the lead, 57-48.

In all, they outscored Talisay City, 40-15, in the third to head to the fourth with a 72-61 lead, one that would not relinquish the rest of the way.

The deciding Game 3 of this championship series will be on Saturday, May 11, at 3 pm at the University of San Carlos gym.

Gabriel Cometa led the way for the Ballers with 23 points while Kenneth Brillo returned from a one-game suspension and had 15 points and nine boards. 

Archie Buscay put up 14 while Dwight Dabon and Paul Sungahid added 13 markers each. /bmjo
