Beachgoers, beware of jellyfish

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Summer is the best time for Vitamin Sea but beachgoers are warned about the presence of thimble jellyfish in the waters of Lapu-Lapu City and Olango Island.

Alma Saavedra, information officer of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas (BFAR-7), said the presence of jellyfish in the waters of Mactan Island are brought about by several factors.

These factors include rise in water temperature, breeding season, and abundance of food in the area.

It will not be uncommon to see a smack of jellyfish in this area.

That is why authorities advise beachgoers to be extra careful when they go swimming.
