CEBU CITY, Philippines — They may be one of Cebu’s most intense rivalry in the 2019 elections.
But political opponents, Tomas Osmeña and Edgar Labella, do share one thing in common: an interest with the Game of Thrones (GoT).
On May 12, Sunday, Labella shared on his official Facebook page a short clip on the “words of wisdom from the Seven Kingdoms,” which shows the character of Lord Varys.
In the clip, Lord Varys, who is also called the spider, uttered the words, “Each of us has a choice to make. I pray we choose wisely.”
In the hit TV series, based on George R.R. Martin’s series of epic fantasy novels entitled A Song of Ice and Fire, Varys serves as Master of Whisperers and a spymaster for the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
Labella also shared a Visayan post of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu City Chapter on various prohibited acts on election day, May 13, 2019.
The incumbent Vice Mayor also reposted his April 13 post on election day reminders, which calls for the voters to be “informed” and “know what to do” as the “future of Cebu will be decided by you.”
“Posting this again since tomorrow is a big day for all of us. Hope this helps,” writes Labella.
Osmeña, on the other hand, posted an advisory on “strictly prohibited social media posts” on election day.
Osmeña reminded the public to refrain from taking selfies with ballots.
“It is an election offence to take ballot selfies after you vote on election day. Ballot photos may be evidence of vote buying and selling,” he wrote.
His second reminder is more interesting: Game of Thrones spoilers.
“Don’t spoil things for people who have not seen the episode yet. Anyone found guilty will be punished with dragon fire. Dracarys!” Osmeña’s post reads.
The incumbent mayor also posted photos of him making chicken sandwich on Sunday night, May 12 and posted a message directed to Cebu City Police Office Director Royina Garma.
“Col. Garma, if you’re going to parade your Michael Dino-style convoy past my house at 10pm again tonight (2 times in 3 mins!), please drop by and say hi. We have sandwiches if Sinas won’t relieve you for accepting them,” he wrote.
Later in the evening, Osmeña’s posted a photo of a bowl of chicken soup, which he said is made from leftover chicken that was used to make sandwich spread.
The photo was accompanied by the caption: “Leftover chicken from the ganina’s sandwich spread. Chicken boiled in the broth of Chinese ham bone with carrots, cabbage, and potatoes. “
