Island Paints still unbeaten

Cebu City, Philippines—Island Paints continued its unbeaten streak as it beat Davies Paints, 87-77, in the Architects +Engineers Basketball Club 2019 Corporate Cup on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the University of San Carlos gym.

Criz Matunog had himself quite a game as he piled on 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting to help Island Paints capture its fifth win in as many games.

Chester Hinagdanan added 19 points and seven rebounds while Ryan Fabia had 14 markers and 13 boards.

Davies Paints dropped to 2-3 (win-loss).

The top four finishers at the end of the round-robin elimination round will all get a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Building System and Toyota Mabolo improved to 4-1 after logging in wins over their respective opponents.

Phoenix routed Buildrite, 86-55, in a lopsided affair that began with them leading by 20, 24-4, after the first period.

JJ Anino paced the winning side with 18 points.

Meanwhile, Toyota Mabolo took advantage of an undermanned Thinking Tools Inc. squad to take an 81-66 victory.

Former M. Lhuillier standout Jett Latonio once again showed his impeccable skills as he scored 25 points to go with eight rebounds and nine assists.

Thinking Tools Inc. fell to 3-2.

Lastly, Filmon-Dormakaba won over AVC Development and Construction Corp., 75-64, to improve to 2-3. /bmjo
