Harvesting mangoes, they say, is an art that calls for precision and expertise.
And we are about to experience it again with Megaworld’s Cebu Mangoes Festival.
Happening this May 25 and 26, Megaworld will celebrate the legacy and success of mangoes as the top produce of the queen city of the south.
“We are very happy to get this celebration underway here in Lapu-Lapu City as we pay tribute to the mangoes of Cebu that the world has come to love,” said Noli Hernandez, president of Megaworld Cebu Properties Inc.
With more than 200 mango trees planted along Newtown Boulevard, Hernandez sees about 1000 kilos of mangoes that will be harvested during the event.
The event will begin with a Mango Street Dancing which will be led by the Kadaugan Dancers, followed by the official start of the all-day mango picking activity along the Newtown Boulevard inside The Mactan Newtown.
A Mango Bazaar featuring “Mangopreneurs” of Cebu will also showcase a variety of mango-related products.
There will also be the unveiling of the world’s biggest mango sago, which is considered to become a historic first in the island.
Both days will be capped off by the MangAmazing Concert, which will feature live performances of Cebu’s homegrown talents, as well as a grand fireworks display after the shows.
“The Cebu Mangoes Festival is a one of a kind celebration here at the Historic Resort City of Lapu-Lapu and this side of Cebu,” said Hembler Mendoza, Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Head./dbs
