A HOUSE of Representatives committee approved a bill seeking to recognize the separate and personal ownership of each individual spouse’s property.
The committee on revisions of laws, chaired by Pangasinan Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, passed House Bill 2384 which seeks to revise the Family Code on the System of Absolute Community and reinstate the long accepted system of conjugal partnership of gains as the basis for the property relations of marital institutions.
Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district, who re-filed the measure, expressed hope the plenary debate on HB 2384 would be scheduled when Congress resumes its session on May 5 after the month-long Lenten break.
The original bill was authored by her father, former Deputy Speaker Pablo Garcia.
She said it will be advantageous to reinstate the system of Conjugal Property of Gains wherein each spouse will retain his or her individual properties before marriage if they choose to end their ties.
