Pacita Arjero, a native of Iloilo City, but has lived in Lapu-Lapu City since 1985, turned 100  yesterday.

Mayor Paz Radaza visited Arjero in her house at the Mactan Air Base to greet her on her centenary. The mayor brought lechon (roast whole pork)  and pancit (noodles) which is traditionally served on birthdays to wish the celebrant “long life” ahead.

There were also drinks for Lola Pacita, who admits she  loves whisky and humba (braised pork).

A women’s organization prepared a birthday cake for Lola Pacita.

City Hall staffers and some barangay captains also showed up to greet the centenarian who is  now suffering from vision and hearing problems. She could still walk in slow steps with somebody aiding her.

Lola Pacita still takes delight in eating all kinds of food.  Her youngest daughter, Evangeline, 67, who takes care of her, says Lola Pacita takes  raw native chicken egg every morning, and a few shots of whisky in the evening.

“Pasalamat kaayo ko og dako sa mayor sa iyang paghatag og pagtagad namo mga tigulang, gikalipay nako ang iyang mga surpresa, hinaot nga magpadayon pa kini,” said Lola Pacita.  (I thank the mayor for giving attention to us the elderly, I am happy with her surprise gifts and I hope this program of hers will continue.)

Lola Pacita’s late husband was a retired Air Force official and a World War II veteran.

They were blessed with five children but two died of an illness in their childhood.  Lola Pacita has 19 grandchildren from her three children.
