A man who claimed to be an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was among the 12 people arrested in an anti-illegal drug raid in barangay Apas, Cebu City early morning yesterday.
Roel Placides was allegedly caught in the act of sniffing shabu with other drug users, said Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, head of the intelligence branch of the Cebu City Police Office.
Santander’s team was supposed to conduct a buy bust operation against Regil Paragile, a suspected drug pusher who is in the watchlist of the CIB.
Paragile however, managed to elude arrest, but police caught five people while having a drug sniffing session. Others arrested were: Jumar Tan Caminade, Rodel Paragile, Elgen Samson and Zosimo Milagrosa.
When confronted by police, Placides allegedly identified himself as an agent of the NBI and presented an identification card.
But upon verification, police discovered that his ID card was fake.
Santander also coordinated with the NBI to further check if Placides is in their roster of operatives.
Police also seized Paragile’s bag which allegedly contained a .45 cal. pistol with five rounds of live ammunition, a .38 cal. revolver and a canister containing 52 small packs of shabu.
Police also arrested Viner Pugoy, William Orge, Jerryl Manulong, Jewel Pialago, Jason Adolfo, Eddie Milagros and Nixon Jorjio for playing hantak, a coin-toss game used in illegal gambling.
