CEBU City councilors will sweat it out with Sugbu Bikers tonight to promote biking in the city.
Called the “Sugbu Bikers Night Ride,” the event will have Councilors Gerardo Carillo, Noel Wenceslao, Roberto Cabarrubias, Dave Tumulak, Richie Osmeña and former councilor Jose Daluz III.
The group will start at 7 p.m., said Josiah Bonsico in a press release.
They will help promote the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation in the city and as part of the government’s campaign to reduce carbon emission.
Councilor Nida Cabrera, head of the council’s environment committee, said she will not be able to join the event because she has to prepare for a trip to Vietnam on Sunday to attend a forum.
Cabrera said she’s happy that more people in the city are getting interested in riding bicycles.
Her ordinance calling for the establishment of bikes lanes in some city streets past first reading the other week.
Carillo said he would help make sure the ordinance gets approved. He also joined Sugbu bikers around the city on March 29 for the celebration of Earth Hour.
The City Council earlier passed a resolution by Carillo designating the seawall roadside of the South Road Properties as a biking and jogging lane.
Tonight’s biking event will start at the BarYo! Grille and Resto bar located at the Aznar compound.
They will proceed to Pelaez Street then to the Guadalupe church, to Banawa, then Tisa through F. Llamas Street, to Quiot then to the Pardo Church. They will then traverse N. Bacalso Avenue on their way to their final stop which is Osmeña Boulevard.
Those who may want to join the night ride could get in touch with Bonsico by calling 09195877452.
Bonsico said that their bikers’ night ride is going to be “an exciting and adventurous activity aimed at sustaining environmental health.”
