Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama apologized to Cebu City residents for the controversy over his approval of the acquisition of IPad Air units for department and division heads of City Hall.

He clarified that the Cebu City government didn’t purchase the gadgets because their acquisition was part of a P2,000 bundled monthly subscription to Smart Communications.

Each department head was given P3,000 worth of communication allowance. Rama asked the Management and Information Computer Services (MICS) to monitor the use of these gadgets.

He said he will confiscate the units from department heads who use them for gaming and other “unofficial uses.” About P1.4 million was allocated for the Smart bundled subscription.
