Donations to CCMC up P15M, Rama says

DONATIONS for the reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) already reached P15 million and the city expects more aid to come, Mayor Michael Rama said yesterday.

Rama received yesterday a P1 million check donation from the city of Haarlemmermeer, one of Cebu City’s sister cities.

He said another P5 million donation from his cousin, businessman Chandran Rama and his Japanese and Chinese business partners will be given in the next two months.

Rama said he is also leaving for the US next month to meet with the board of governors of the Operation Smile and solicit money from them for the CCMC reconstruction project.

Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung, one of the Operation Smile governors, already pledged a P100 million donation for CCMC but Rama said he wanted to make a presentation of the hospital reconstruction project before the board, hoping to get more.

The mayor was supposed to leave for the US last month but his travel was postponed because of delays in the issuance of a travel permit by the Department of Interior and Local Government.
