ANDAY Tunacao of Leyte and Dumaguete City’s Mereis Ramirez emerged the toughest and fastest runners in the inaugural Runnilla Eco Trail Challenge in Minglanilla, southern Cebu.
Tunacao finished the grueling 30-kilometer race in 3 hours, 15 minutes and 46 seconds to win the men’s title while Ramirez clocked 3:57.00 to rule the women’s side.
So impressive was Tunacao’s performance that he beat Kenyan runners Isaac Simat (3:30.55) and James Mibei (3:40.00), who placed second and third, respectively.
Jade Abellana finished second in the women’s race with a time of 4:21.40 followed by Christy Sevilleno (4:34.34).
The race was organized by the Cebu Trail Runners. It was held for the benefit of Sitio Calbasa-an Elementary School. The prceeds of the race aimed to purchase an electric generator for the school. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
