The Bureau of Internal Revenue is expecting people to jam their offices today, the deadline of the filing of annual income tax.
Commissioner Kim Henares said all BIR offices will close at 5p.m. There will be no extension of business hours. As with the deadline.
Those who fail to settle their tax obligations will be meted with stiff fines.
The chief of the BIR in Cebu, Herminio Palamine, said that they “have been getting high volumes of filing already but we expect more today because Filipinos really usually submit on deadlines.”
Palamine said they have observed more people filing their tax obligations, among them are doctors. “We see our campaigns now taking effect. People are becoming more aware and they are submitting on time now,” he said.
This year, BIR has set the collections target at P1.46 trillion, which is 16 percent higher than the target last year.
Tax collection
Palamine said they have intensified their tax collection campaign. Tax dodgers will be charged penalties amounting to 20 percent interest, surcharged of 25 percent of the basic tax due and compromise penalty.
