Elusive drug suspect falls

A 27-year-old man described by police as an elusive drug suspect was arrested in Madridejos town in Bantayan Island, northern Cebu.

Harold Dequitos and three others, including a 16-year-old boy, were arrested Monday morning by operatives of the Madridejos police and City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office.

An Ingram automatic pistol, a .357 cal. revolver, a .38 cal. revolver and packs of dried marijuana leaves were allegedly seized from Joseph Morata, 23, Jose Mari Tiu, 27, and the 16-year-old boy.

“Mura mi naibtan og tunok ani kay dugay na kaayo ni namo siya gipangita (The arrest made us heave a big sigh of relief. We have been hunting him down for a long time),” said Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, chief of CIB.

Dequitos had a standing arrest warrant for drug charges issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Enriquita Belarmino.

Dequitos was considered a Level 2 drug pusher who is capable of selling at least two grams of shabu a week, police said.

Dequitos was allegedly involved in several killings in barangay Tejero and his arrest would lead to the solution of murder cases, said Santander.

Santander said police have been trying to arrest Dequitos since last year and had raided his house in Tejero twice but he eluded arrest on all occasions.
