CEBU CITY, Philippines—Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) commissioner Felix “Boy” Tiukinhoy has a wish for the 20th season of the Cesafi this year.
“Looking forward to less of unsportsmanlike conduct among players,” said Tiukinhoy.
In last year’s season, there were a bunch of players and coaches in basketball and football who got suspended, paid penalties and made to serve four hours of community service for displaying unsportsmanlike behavior during games.
According to Tiukinhoy, they plan to lessen the incidence of unsportsmanlike behavior “by conducting seminars directly to the coaches and players and relaying to them the ground rules and regulations before the start of the season.”
“This, to be able to create a harmonious competition among the the 13 Cesafi member schools,” added Tiukinhoy.
Tiukinhoy also hopes that this year, the Cesafi Media Bureau, which he created last year, will have a better coverage not only in basketball but also in other sporting events such as football and volleyball.
The Cesafi league usually unfurls in the month of August and is kicked off by its premiere sporting competition—basketball.
While most sporting events are done before the year ends, there are a few that have yet to start such as beach volleyball and futsal.
Beach volleyball started last December and will resume this month. Futsal, on the other hand, will start this month.
The Cesafi also has the cultural and academic competition which will be contested this year. There are 14 events namely hip hop, vocal solo, general info, math quiz, science quiz, spelling contest, duet, essay writing, declamation, sudoku, oration, impromptu, balak/sangka sa panulong and robotics. /bmjo
