Expect heavy traffic leading to the Liberty Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City due to some star power and vendors hawking their food to sightseers in the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” (Victory in Mactan) at 9 a.m. today.
Now on its 13th year, the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” reenacts the Battle of Mactan won by chieftain Lapu-Lapu and his men over Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan on April 27, 1521.
A pre-battle ritual opens the reenactment with male dancers simulating fighting moves using bolos and spears while women wave leaves to support the men.
The ritual also consists of the dancers praying to the gods.
Actors Daniel Matsunaga, Carlos Agassi and Venus Raj will play the roles of Lapu-Lapu, Magellan and Reyna Bulakna respectively.
“Kadaugan” director Xavier Palanca said they will do something different in today’s event to make it memorable for the thousands expected to attend their presentation.
