Man owns up killing of drinking buddy

Jason Basas, 20 was among the hundreds, if not thousands, who thronged to Lapu Lapu City to join the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan street party over the weekend. That was the last time he was seen alive.

At 5:30 a.m. yesterday, a security guard of the General Milling Corp. found him dead in a grassy portion of a vacant lot near the factory in sitio Seaside in barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City. His body bore stab wounds in the neck and chest.

Senior Supt. Armando Radoc, acting chief of police of Lapu-Lapu City, however said the incident could not have been related to the Kadaugan Street Party as it happened outside the venue.

There were no witnesses to the crime, but Sandro Piscalla, 27 went to barangay chairman Junard Chan and admitted to the crime.

He said that he and his brothers Roy and Jaymon, as well as the victim were together at the street party where they had rounds of drinks.

After the revelry ended at 3 a.m., they decided to continue their drinking session somewhere else. However, while they were on their way to the next venue, an altercation ensued between him and the victim that resulted in the fatal stabbing.

While the confessed killer absolved his brothers of any involvement in the crime, police said they may face charges for not reporting the incident to the authorities.
