CEBU CITY, Philippines— Why is ukulele a happy instrument?
According to Ukulele Cebu, a ukulele community based in Cebu, the instrument’s unique and warm tone is responsible for making it a happy instrument.
In the latest episode of CDNPlay some members of Ukulele Cebu shared why they shifted from playing guitar to this four-stringed instrument.
The ukelele belongs to the guitar family of instruments that has generally four nylon strings.
Isser Libres, one of the pioneer members of the group, said that the ukulele is much easier to carry around and can give you a soothing sound. It is easier to play, too, according to some members of the group.

Ukulele Cebu started in December 2012 with just a handful of members. Now, they have 50 active and non-active members who play around the metro.
“Ukulele Cebu is ukulele community here in Cebu, composed of ukulele performers, and enthusiasts,” said Libres.
The group was founded by Paul Caca, who is a Cebuano vocalist.
Since their beginning, the ukulele community in Cebu has improved as what the group has observed.
“Ukulele Cebu community really good, it is really good. These days, people are like playing the ukulele on a daily basis,” said the group.
With this, Ukulele Cebu said it is still looking for more members to play with them during Ukulele Sundays at the Tavern.
“They can visit our Facebook page and message us so we can talk to them about how they can be part of the group,” said Leigh. /bmjo
