Team: ‘We are willing to help road clearing but some barangays are not cooperative’

TEAM operations chief Arnold Malig-on

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) has called on barangays to coordinate with them in clearing their roads from obstructions and illegal structures.

Team Operations Chief Arnold Malig-on, in an interview on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, said their office is willing to support the barangays in their task to clear their roads as directed by the Department of Interior and local government.

“I hope mo-coordinate sila kay bisan kuwang ang ilang resources, naa ang City Legal Office, naa ang traffic enforcement nga willing mo-support nila,” Malig-on said.

(I hope they will coordinate because even if they don’t have the resources, the City Legal Office and the Team are here to support them.)

The DILG’s 75-day monitoring on the implementation of the road clearing efforts headed by the barangays began Sunday, February 16.

However, Malig-on said they noticed some barangay officials are uncooperative during their previous clearing operations in barangay roads.

“After we conducted the operations, we hoped that they will be the one to maintain them but some of them, as we heard, would even tell the structure owners to return to their old posts after we leave,” Malig-on said.

“I don’t know what their issues are because other barangays are also very cooperative in our operations. When we reach there, they would even guide us,” he added.

In the barangays, Malig-on said most obstructions are make-shift “sari-sari” stores and parts of houses that encroach the roads.

Malig-on added that in clearing obstructions, especially if involving illegal structures, their operations are lead by the CLO. /rcg
