Drink lots of fluids and remember to bring umbrellas or wear a hat or cap when going out of the house.
“Protection from the sun will help avoid heat stroke and other diseases caused by the very warm weather,” said Dr. Daisy Villa, Cebu City Health Officer.
Villa said, so far, her office has not received any report of people suffering from heat stroke but cases may occur as hot temperatures continue in the next few days.
Villa said that those with cardio vascular diseases, high blood pressure and those who are taking maintenance drugs are the most prone to heat stroke.
She advised a daily regimen of drinking at least eight glasses of water or fruit juices, taking vitamins and doing 10 minutes of exercise at least three times a day to boost the immune system.
Heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible health risks due to exposure to the summer heat.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “muscle cramping might be the first sign of heat-related illness, and may lead to heat exhaustion or stroke.”
