Local bystanders in Toledo City found a dying sunfish that beached along the coast this morning.

PO1 Rogelio Gutang said they received a report on the creature’s presence at 10 a.m. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is now looking into the circumstances of its death.

The fish died a few moments after it was rescued by security guards of Carmen Copper Corporation’s docking area.

The sunfish was found with bruises on its body. It is protected under the Cebu Provincial Ordinance.

Last week, a hammerhead shark was found being sold at the Daanbantayan public market. Last Monday, Cebu Daily News confirmed reports on rampant shark hunting in Tangke, Talisay City.

Yesterday, a dead dolphin was found in the rocky shores of Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
