A 60-year-old German national who was mistaken for a robber was shot dead by a security guard of a beach resort in barangay Guiwang, Alcoy at dawn yesterday.
Hans Hunsjurgen Hesse was declared dead at the Dalaguete District Hospital. He was shot in the neck and body.
Hesse is a resident of the Sola Homes beach resort and is married to a Filipina, according to PO2 Wilt Almagro, desk officer at the Alcoy police station.
The suspect, Jerome Niere, 36, of ZQB Security Agency, fled.
Police said the security guard was on patrol at around 2 a.m. when he allegedly shot the foreigner.
Jerry Carolasan, also one of the resort’s guards, told police that he was also patrolling the other end of the resort when he heard a gunfire.
Then, he saw his colleague running towards him and told him that he had shot someone.
Carolasan rushed to the scene and found the victim sprawled on the ground.
Policemen who rushed to the resort took Hesse to the hospital.
PO2 Almagro said that based on Carolasan’s statement, Niere might have mistaken Hesse for a robber as he was wearing a dark-colored diving suit with his face covered with a mask.
The area was also dark.
