CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Health has finally revealed the areas of identified cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the city.

With at least 21 identified cases, Cebu City leads Central Visayas in the most number of positive cases and the most number of suspected cases still yet to be tested.

In the recent data of the Cebu City Health, positive Covid-19 patients have been identified in 10 barangays, most of which are found in Barangays Guadalupe.

Barangay Guadalupe has four cases followed by Banilad with 3 cases, then Sambag II, Talamban, and Kinasang-an with two cases each. Barangays Babag II, Camputhaw, Capitol Site, Cogon Ramos, Mambaling, Opra, and Sta. Cruz have one each.

Four of the positive cases died and these are from Barangays Talamban, Camputhaw, and Sta. Cruz. A lone recovery was recorded in Barangay Banilad.

The number of suspected cases in the city has remained steady in Cebu City with 552 persons under monitoring (PUM) or people with contact to Covid-19 patients but remain asymptomatic, and 109 with influenza-like-illness (ILI).

Those with ILI are the priority for testing because they exhibit symptoms of the virus.

Barangay Kamputhaw still leads the city with 105 PUMs followed by Capitol Site with 65 PUMs. These two barangays belong to the Central portions of Cebu City.

In previous statements, City Health Officer Daisy Villa said revealing the areas where the positive and suspected cases are found will help inform the barangays on whether to tighten its measures against the spread of the virus.

However, she said that PUMs and ILI should be treated with kidness and compassion with regards to public health safety.

“The best protection against the virus is to stay at home,” said Villa. /bmjo
