A student’s guide to staying productive during quarantine

All schools in the country have closed early in response to the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections.

Being a student during a community quarantine can be considered both a blessing and a curse.

For those who finished their term on time before schools were closed are now having their early vacation.

But for those who missed their graduation as a precautionary measure, and for those who are planning to catch up on some summer classes, the situation can be tricky and will require some adjustments.

Here are a few tips for students to stay productive while on quarantine:

Wake up and sleep on time

Maintain a healthy sleep schedule during your time in quarantine.  Set a schedule for going to bed and waking up, like you were going to campus.

When your mind and body gets enough rest, you will be more productive throughout the day. Being quarantined during the school year and the summer term is extremely difficult for any student.

Stay focused and make sure to remind yourself that you are working hard for your education.  During weekdays, especially during regular school hours, you should avoid activities that are not related to school or work.

Eat healthily

After waking up, go straight to your kitchen and prepare a healthy meal for breakfast.  Skip reaching out for a soda early in the morning and instead peel a banana.  You will focus better when your stomach is full of nutrients.

If you have some extra time before attending your online classes, you can even make breakfast for your whole family.

Eat on time and avoid over-snacking on junk food.

Keeping your healthy eating habits in mind will keep you away from stress-eating your quarantine snacks.  Remember to always drink water and stay hydrated.

Make a list

When we say this, we mean to make a list of your priorities in order from highest to lowest.

Schoolwork should be first in your priorities of course,  but it doesn’t mean you can’t insert some time to learn a new hobby.

Making a list and creating a schedule will make you more organized and productive at the same time.

Even if you’re stuck in your house or apartment, it’s important to balance your life.

Go ahead and schedule an online date with your friends, stay social even if you are stuck in quarantine, spare some time for yourself and don’t drown yourself from too much work.

Exercise

Yup, you read that right.

One of the best ways to stay productive while indoors is exercise.

You’re done rewatching all your favorite movies and series, now there’s no excuse not to spare an extra 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day.

It doesn’t only help you stay in shape but it makes your mood better and keeps your endorphins flowing.

Watch exercise videos online, clean your house or arrange your room, just get moving!

Have an ideal workspace

Your bed and couch don’t count.

Having a dedicated working environment at home will make you less likely to procrastinate.

Keeping you away from distractions like watching a movie or series and being on social media for hours.

Practice self-discipline and reward yourself after you’ve successfully finished all your online classes or reviews.

Make sure that before you spend hours studying in your work area, take a bath and dress up.

Acting like you’re still attending school will bring out your creativity and increase your productivity.

Make sure to pay attention to your mental health as well while you’re at home studying or working.

If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed with your situation right now and you still have to finish tasks, be sure to have some breaks in between.

These tips are only suggestions that will help students pass with flying colors even after quarantine.
