AROUND 25 members of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will battle each other today as they vie for this month’s crown in the Monthly Chess qualifying tournament for May at the Handuraw Pizza in Gorordo Avenue.
A total of P3,000 cash is at stake for the top three winners in the tournament. A slot to the Cepca Tournament of Champions 2014 tournament slated December is also at stake.
The tournament, which is a five-round Swiss System tilt with handicapping time controls, will start at 2 p.m.
The players who belong to Class A will be given a handicapping time control of 15 minutes, while those in Class B will have 20 minutes.
The champion in this edition will receive P1,500, while the 2nd and 3rd placers will take home P1,000 and P500, respectively.
Rosendo Yamyamin was the latest champion in the monthly tournament after ruling the April edition. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
