Our kidneys have an important role in filtering out toxins and wastes from the bloodstream.

Aside from a balanced diet, we should also practice a healthy lifestyle to keep not just our kidneys, but all our organs functioning well.

By just drinking plenty of purified water, it can effectively help our kidneys flush out unwanted waste and toxins.

However, our body also needs other nutrients that water can’t provide.

Have a look at some of these teas and drinks that are good for your kidneys aside from water.

Apple Juice

A diet that is high in potassium can lead to complications for those with chronic kidney disease.

Apple juice is naturally low in potassium.

Having low-potassium juice can help you stay hydrated without increasing your risk of taking too much potassium.

Aside from Vitamin C, apples are also a good source of pectin, a soluble fiber that can lower cholesterol and glucose levels.

Matcha Green Tea

Matcha Green Tea, like regular green tea, comes from the plant Camellia sinensis.

One of the biggest benefits of Matcha green tea is its antioxidant properties.

Matcha contains up to 137 times more antioxidants than other types of green tea.

Drinks or food that are high in antioxidants can also help with chronic kidney problems.

Having a matcha may also lower your risk of other chronic diseases.

Ginger tea

Ginger is a nutritious spice that we use in cooking or medicine.

But aside from the taste, it adds to our meals, it is loaded with nutrients that our body uses to maintain good health, especially kidney health.

Ginger contains a compound called gingerol.

Gingerol prevents the spread of bacteria.

The compound in ginger is known to relieve overworked kidneys and liver.

Some studies have also shown that ginger can assist in controlling chronic high blood sugar, which is harmful to the kidneys.

Lemon Juice

Adding more citrate in your diet from lemon juices can keep you healthy.

Lemon juice and its natural acidic characteristic have shown its ability to increase citrate levels in urine, this is a factor that prevents kidney stones from forming.

Lemon juice can also filter our blood and flush out wastes and other toxins.

Sambong

Sambong, a tropical aromatic shrub is common here in the Philippines.

Its dried leaves, when boiled, has a lot of benefits.

In one study, researchers found that Sambong leaves or Blumea balsamifera extract could potentially prevent the formation of kidney stones.  Because when the extract was added to calcium oxalate crystals, it could decrease the size of the crystals.
