The Star Wars movies are considered a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon.
It might also be the most analyzed, documented, and widely-discussed Science-Fiction franchise ever made.
Many fans love the story so much that in Consolacion town of northern Cebu, ‘Stormtroopers’ help man checkpoints to check the temperature of travelers.
Recently, a post by ‘Star Wars Cebu,’ went viral when they were deputized by the Consolacion police to “help ease tensions” at the quarantine checkpoints.
Today, there’s still so much about Star Wars that fans don’t know about their favorite characters.
So we’ve gathered some interesting facts about your favorite Star Wars characters who would likely have your back during these tough times.
Luke Skywalker
Did you know that Luke Skywalker’s character was almost a girl?
In January of 1975, screenwriter George Lucas was working on the second draft of sci-fi space opera he called “Adventures of the Starkiller, Episode One: The Star Wars.”
One of the problems he encountered while writing the script (that would eventually become Star Wars: A New Hope) was the lack of serious female characters.
So, he decided to rewrite his story’s main character, Luke Starkiller, as an 18-year-old girl.
One concept drawing by artist Ralph McQuarrie even exists for the short-lived gender swap.
A few months later, ‘Starkiller’ was a boy again in Lucas’ next draft.
Rey
There’s a lot of mysteries about Rey’s character but the greatest mystery of all is: ‘Who are Rey’s parents?’
Speculations went wild such as she’s the child of Luke Skywalker, the illegitimate offspring of Han, the daughter of Snoke, or the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi and it goes on.
In The Last Jedi, the answer was finally revealed.
Her parents were nobodies. Junkers sold her for drinking money and then were buried in a mass grave.
The internet went crazy and asked if Kylo Ren was lying.
Many fans were let down by what they thought was an unbelievable answer to a big mystery.
It appears the film believes that nobodies can be very significant indeed.
In ‘The Force Awakens’, Rey was earning her living as a scavenger but she was a strong survivor.
Leia
According to Roger Guyett, the visual effects supervisor of Star Wars, Leia in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ was basically a live-action element of her face with a completely digital character
This was done because they wanted to ensure Leia had a distinctly new look from the previous two films.
Guyett said that they wanted her to have a new hairstyle because she’s a very specific part of Episode IX.
They also had a fantastic stand-in for Princess Leia who looked at all the footage and tried to learn the lines and represent Carrie Fisher.
The stand-in had her hair and makeup done to match Leia.
Han Solo
Did you know that Han Solo died in the original script?
The original ending of ‘Return of the Jedi’ was said to go on like this: Luke was assuming Darth Vader’s role as evil Galactic Enforcer, and Han Solo dying in his heroic raid on the Death Star.
Harrison Ford, who played the role, would have been fine with this.
But Ford was also famously snippy about George Lucas’ script.
In one article, Ford told Lucas: “George, you can type this, but you sure can’t say it.”
Obi-Wan
Obi-Wan helped young Luke Skywalker from afar in Marvel’s Star Wars comic.
Luke discovers a journal written by Obi-Wan that reveals how the Jedi Master protected his young ward during his childhood on Tatooine.
The journal revealed that Obi-Wan once rescued Luke from Jabba the Hutt’s enforcers, who planned to sell Luke into slavery.
When Luke wakes up at home the next morning, he can’t recall the incident anymore implying that Obi-Wan used a Jedi mind trick to erase Luke’s memory.
