Store manager killed in Maguikay market

A daughter of the owner of a known furniture store was fatally shot in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City last Friday.

Imelda Tio Yu, a resident of Holy Family Town Homes in barangay Maguikay, was shot while aboard a tricycle near a satellite market beside the Maguikay flyover.

Yu’s mother owns Sun Gold. The victim was the manager of the store’s  barangay Subangdaku branch.

Police said the victim left her office around 5:30 p.m. and went to the market on a passenger jeepney.

Around 6 p.m., the victim decided to go home. She boarded a tricycle driven by Roger Calumba but as soon as she took the seat behind the driver a man approached her and shot her in the chest.

The bullet that hit Yu also pierced Calumba’s  hip.

The gunman fired another shot while about to escape, hitting the other passenger, Arnel Juanite, in the left knee.

The gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by a cohort.

Police recovered two empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene.

The three victims were brought to the Mandaue City Hospital where the victim later died.

SPO2 Marcos Noval, investigator of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police Office, said the assailant could be a hired  killer.

No clear motive has been established yet, said police.

Police said the victim was only identified when they found a piece of paper with a person’s name and  cell phone number in a pouch recovered from  the victim.
