3 ‘light’ earthquakes logged in Bohol, NegOr

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Three light earthquakes, one in Bohol province and two in Negros Oriental, were recorded in Central Visayas in the first hour of Sunday, May 10, 2020.

At 12:10 a.m, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) logged a magnitude 2.0 earthquake with an epicenter at about 14 kilometers north-west of Panglao, Bohol.

This was followed by a magnitude 1.6 and 1.5 earthquakes, at 12:11 and 12:13 a.m. respectively, with their epicenters in the vicinity of northeast of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

All three earthquakes are tectonic in origin. There are also no reported intensities from the light tremors.

Phivolcs said no damages or aftershocks are expected from the three ground movements.

Just three hours after the light earthquakes in Central Visayas, a magnitude 5.4 quake hit Occidental Mindoro. The tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in several parts of Metro Manila.

The quake, also tectonic in origin, hit around 3:18 a.m. at about 20 km northeast of Lubang Island at a depth of 76 km, Phivolcs said.
