Batch 1988/Dewfoam completed the quarterfinal cast with a 69-65 win over Batch 2005/PTT Fuels & Lubricants in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 13th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym, Tuesday night.
Ricky Yu came up big in the crucial win, piling up 25 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists as Batch ‘88 grabbed the eighth and final playoff spot.
In the quarterfinal round, the number one, two, three and four teams will be twice-to-beat against the number five, six, seven and eight squads, respectively.
A daunting task awaits Batch ‘88 as it plays Batch 1999/Jepoy Express at the start of the quarterfinal round tonight at the above-mentioned venue.
Batch ‘99 emerged as the top seed after a magnificent sweep in the elimination round where it won all of its 13 assignments.
The other match in tonight’s double-header will be the second-seed Batch 1980s/‘90s-A/Argentina Corned Beef going up against the sixth-seed Batch 1997.
Also contributing big to Batch ‘88’s big win were Gregorio Aguilar, Harry Villamor and Erwin Yu, who scored in twin digits for a combined 51 points.
