The Cebu Climate Change Association Inc. (CCCAI) is calling on all Cebuano running buffs to join their inaugural “Dagan Para sa Kalikupan (Run for The Environment)” this Sunday at the Parkmall in Mandaue City.

The race features 10-kilometer, 5k and 3k distances and hopes to distribute at least 2,000 fruit-bearing tree seedlings to CCCAI partner public schools.

CCCAI also aims to promote awareness through this race of the threat of climate change.

“We encourage everyone to join the race because aside from improving their physical fitness, they will also help us advance our advocacy,” CCCAI president Alan Dinampo said during yesterday’s press conference at the Parkmall.

He was joined by race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running along with CCCAI Vice President Jojo Flores and CCCAI officers.

Presently, 500 runners have already registered. Organizers are hoping to draw around 800 runners on race day. Onsite registrants are also welcome.

Flores, for his part, said definite steps should be taken to lessen the impact of climate change. “Our climate is constantly changing, we all need to do our share to lessen its impact and prevent catastrophes like supertyphoon Yolanda from happening again.”

The top 10 runners in each division will receive cash prizes.

Registration is ongoing at the Parkmall and RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu. Registration fee is pegged at P350 for the 3k, P400 for the 5k and P500 for the 10k inclusive of the race shirt, bib and post-race refreshments.
