THE closure of the University of San Carlos (USC) General Services Office (GSO) is final according to the USC Board of Trustees.
In a public statement by USC Board of Trustees Secretary Fr. Lucio Dayag, SVD, the same is true with the termination of employment of its personnel.
The remaining 15 of the 77 terminated personnel who have not accepted the offer under the Early Retirement Program (ERP) have until May 31 to do so.
Those who will claim beyond the said date will only be granted the amount of separation pay as required by the law.
USC offers to the workers an equivalent of one month salary for every year of service, plus 10 months.
The law, on the other hand, mandates that a worker should be given an equivalent of one-half month salary for every year of service.
All former GSO employees will be given preference when positions for electricians or plumbers will be opened.
But they will have to undergo training and obtain a certification of acquired skills from the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and go through a competitive screening process upon recruitment. /Nina Bianca Sayson, UP Intern
