A man who allegedly fatally shot his neighbor in Talisay City in southern Cebu Sunday night hid in a sewer to evade arrest.
Police who were sent over to pursue Jeffrey Juanico knew he was inside the drain pipe, but they decided not to follow him as they don’t want to risk getting suffocated in the dingy, stinky pipeline.
Together with village watchmen and curiousity-seekers, the police decided to wait for him to emerge from the pipeline.
SPO1 Mikie Espina of the Talisay City Police Station said Juanico shot Eduardo Lardo in the right hand and foot after they had a heated argument in barangay San Isidro.
He tried to flee towards barangay Mohon and shot people he met along the way.
Raul Pardillo said the suspect fired at him, but missed. Johnny Larandio was not as lucky as him as he was hit in the back and was killed instantly.
Authorities sealed all possible exit points and waited.
The long wait ended around 9 a.m. Tuesday or after 48 hours when the suspect, who stripped down to his underwear, emerged from the drain pipe and gave himself up.
Juanico asked for water as soon as he got out.
Some residents tried to beat him up as police took him to the police station.
The suspect was later taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for medical-physical examination.
