The team that will try and stand in the way of a finals berth for the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras will be known today when the unbeaten Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws and the UAAP champions La Salle Green Archers face off in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan City.
SWU booked its ticket to the Final Four last Monday when it beat the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers, 65-57. The win made the Cobras the first team outside of Manila to make it this far in the tournament.
When pressed who he would rather face in the semifinals, SWU head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba gamely picked FEU.
“Well, we have a better record against them,” Alcoseba said. “We’ve beaten them here and we’ve beaten them in Manila. So we’ve had our share of success against the Tamaraws.”
Still, Alcoseba believes that even if FEU makes it through, it won’t be a walk in the park.
“Make no mistake, (FEU) is a very strong team. They haven’t been beaten in this tournament.”
Should La Salle prevail, Alcoseba said they will have to believe in themselves and trust one another more in order to get over a team that has had their number these past few months.
The Green Archers denied the Cobras the Philippine Collegiate Champions League title late last year and also handed them their only loss of the tournament so far in a game here in Cebu.
Meanwhile, the other semis pairing will see the reigning NCAA champions San Beda Red Lions take on perennial UAAP contenders National University Bulldogs. The winner of this contest will be facing the undefeated Centro Escolar University Scorpions.
