Are there policemen coddling drug personalities in barangay Talamban, Cebu City?
Senior Insp. Bienvenido Miral admitted that even before he was designated commander of the Talamban Police Station he had already heard reports that some policemen are protecting people involved in the illegal drug trade.
Miral said he even had the names of the policemen assigned in the barangay who are allegedly in cahoots with drug personalities. “Duna koy ngalan pero way confirmation (I have the names but it needs confirmation),” said Mira.
Mira, who took over as Talamban precinct commander two months ago, is urging anyone who can prove the allegations to come out in the open so concrete action can be taken against the erring policemen. Mira added that according to reports, the erring policemen are often seen visiting sitio Dita in barangay Pulangbato which is considered a drug-infested area.
Miral said policemen suspected to be involved in the illegal activity is already being monitored.
Supt. Romeo Santander, chief of the City Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they are checking these reports so they could make a recommendation to Senior Supt. Noli Romana, director of CCPO. Santander said one of the measures planned to be taken to fight illegal drug activities is to put up police detachments in mountain barangays so that drug peddlers can easily be identified or arrested.
Aside from Pulangbato, Santander also identified barangay Cambinocot where illegal drug activities is rampant.
