WORK on an P84-million drainage system that will address flooding on A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City will start Monday.
The project is getting underway just as the rainy season is about to start.
Pablito Obial Construction will complete the project in 300 days or on February 2015.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 information officer Marie Nillama said they are prioritizing work on this national road because of extreme flooding especially near the Rolling Hills Memorial Homes.
The budget for the project is P83, 702,335.
The site was checked yesterday for obstructions such as electric posts.
Bigger culverts will be used (from 36 inches to 48 inches) and the sidewalk of the entire stretch to the corner of Highway Seno will be improved.
Architect Florentino Nimor, Mandaue city’s planning officer, said water catchments will be built near the Rolling Hills and LH Prime where flood waters are deeper.
It helped that planning was coordinated between the DPWH and the city government, said Dr. Danilo Hackie, a consultant of Mega Cebu.
Construction was supposed to start last May 2 but was delayed by some needed paperwork./ Silliman University Intern DM Lorena V. Narciso
